Hi, I know almost everyone that uses the internet has a facebook account and a lot of important information are being posted almost every seconds, from personal informations to pictures, etc… Here are some important security features that Facebook has that you need to activate and monitor.
1. Login Notifications
Login Notifications are an opt-in security feature that send alerts when your account is being accessed. If you have not already opted in to receiving these notifications, you can do so by carefully following the steps provided:
- From the Account Settings page, select “Change” Account Security.
- Select “Yes” to opt in to receiving Login Notifications via email. Also, toggle “SMS (mobile text)” if you would also like to receive a text message to the mobile phone associated with your account. If you have not already added a mobile phone number to your account, you can do so here.
- After opting-in to receive Login Notifications, you will be prompted to name your Approved Device during your next login. Do not toggle the “Save this device” option if you are accessing your account from a public computer.
- Once you have named your Approved Device, a notification will be sent to the email address associated with your account and your mobile phone if you selected that option.
2. Active Sessions
Active Sessions shows you a list of the recent times you have accessed your Facebook account. Each entry includes the date and time you signed into Facebook, your approximate location when signing in, and the type of device you were using to access your account. You will also see the option to end any active session on the right side of each entry.The approximate location is based off of the IP address used to access your account. If you would like to know the specific IP information of a login, simply hover your mouse over that session’s location data.
